A Dutchman and his electric car have completed a three-year, 95,000km trip across the world in Sydney.

Wiebe Wakker left the Netherlands in March 2016 with no money and a goal to prove the viability of electric vehicles by making his way to Australia.

With no money, he relied on the generosity and power points of supporters as he journeyed across 33 countries including Turkey, Iran, India and Malaysia.

The 1119-day trip ended at Sydney's Royal Botanic Gardens on Sunday.

"It took some effort but overall I had a pretty easy trip, made possible by hundreds of people who signed up on my website (or) offered help on the way," he posted to Facebook.

"People are congratulating me as I have shown the possibilities of electric cars but I am more happy with all the help I received from people during my journey."

While in Australia, Mr Wakker and his car, the Blue Bandit, visited every mainland capital city, stopped by Uluru and crossed the Nullabor Plain.
