* Goodes holds the VFL/AFL games record for Sydney, and has played more matches than any other indigenous player.

* Goodes also won the 1999 Rising Star Award, was named in the Indigenous Team of the Century and captained Australia in the international rules series.

* On Saturday night in his last match, he kicked a goal with his last kick. Goodes watched as fellow AFL retiree Rhyce Shaw was chaired off before quietly announcing his retirement in the Sydney rooms to his teammates.
