DOG DRIVING FORCES MINISTER TO RETIRE WITH TAIL BETWEEN LEGS:

* Victoria's Corrections Minister Steve Herbert concedes it was a mistake to use his taxpayer-funded car and driver to chauffeur his two dogs, Ted and Patch, from Parkdale to his country home in Trentham.
Thursday, October 27
* The opposition says Mr Herbert has been caught rorting the system.
* Premier Daniel Andrews tells media the minister has apologised and won't do it again.
* In question time, Mr Herbert can't say how many times the dogs had made the 120km trip.
* It emerges Mr Herbert had not declared the Trentham home on his register of interests.
Friday, October 28
* Daniel Andrews tells Mr Herbert to get his affairs in order but refuses to sack the minister.
Sunday, October 30
* Mr Herbert defends using $113,000 of taxpayers' money for travel, in his duties as training and international education minister.
Wednesday, November 8
* The minister tells parliament he has paid back $192.80 for petrol costs and donated $1000 to an animal shelter
* He says he can only recall the dogs travelling alone once or twice, always in travel containers.
Thursday, November 9
* Opposition Leader Matthew Guy tells reporters "it was well known that this was a regular weekly event during sitting weeks for Steve Herbert" to chauffeur his dogs.
* Mr Herbert resigns from the ministry and announces he will not contest the next election.
