WHAT'S AT STAKE IN THE JAPANESE GRAND PRIX
* Nico Rosberg, who extended his run of podium finishes to four races in Malaysia last week, is now 23 points clear of Hamilton in the drivers' standings with only five rounds remaining.
* Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes team were on course to claim the constructors' championship before he retired in Malaysia last week. Mercedes are 194 points clear of Red Bull with 215 points left to play for. Red Bull therefore, must score 23 points more than Mercedes to keep the title alive.
* Michael Schumacher is the most successful driver in Japan, having won at Suzuka on six occasions. Hamilton has won three times - in Fuji in 2007, here in 2014 and again last year.
* Despite being on pole position for the past two seasons, Rosberg is yet to win in Japan.
* Starting on pole does not always guarantee success here. Twelve pole-sitters have won the 27 races staged at Suzuka, while 11 winners have started from second on the grid.
