A snapshot of round 11 of the AFL season

Highlights from round 11 of the AFL season.

WHAT HAPPENED IN ROUND 11 OF THE AFL

THEY SAID IT: "It's great to be on top of the ladder - it means we've won again - but realistically, it doesn't change anything," Greater Western Sydney coach Leon Cameron, keeping a lid on things after the Giants defeated Essendon to go top for the first time in the club's history.

STATS THAT MATTER: Hawthorn have endured an indifferent season to date, but they recorded a historic low in their 51-point loss to Port Adelaide. The Hawks' first-half score of 0.3 was the lowest recorded in the club's history.

MAN OF THE ROUND: Richmond superstar Dustin Martin tore apart potential free agency suitor North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium. Martin, who is a restricted free agent at the end of the season, added a few more dollars to his next contract with a breathtaking 38-possession, two-goal performance in a 35-point win.

KEY MOMENT: The man they call 'Two-Metre Peter' rose to the occasion in Gold Coast's time of need. With his side trailing by three points against West Coast, Wright hung onto a mark with just under two minutes remaining at Metricon Stadium and coolly converted a set shot from 45m out to give the Suns a lead they didn't surrender.

TALKING POINT: So, can Nathan Buckley coach or not? Collingwood's backs-against-the-wall win against Fremantle in Perth could be the defining point (again) of what has been a tough season for the embattled coach.

TRIBUNAL WATCH: Plenty of interest around the match review panel's reaction to Geelong star Tom Hawkins' jumper punch on Adelaide's Matt Crouch. The Cats are hopeful their spearhead will escape with a fine despite the AFL crack down. Greater Western Sydney's Aidan Corr might have a similar issue for his high hit on Essendon's Josh Green.

KEY INJURIES: Joel Selwood (Geel, cut head), Jake Lever (Adel, ankle), Taylor Garner (NM, leg), Jamie Elliott (Coll, ankle), Daniel Wells (Coll, calf).

WHAT'S NEXT: Sydney kick off round 12 on Thursday night when they host the Western Bulldogs at the SCG and Melbourne clash with Collingwood on Queen's Birthday Monday in the last match of the round. North Melbourne, Richmond, West Coast and Geelong have byes.
