A year after Sydney baby Lilly Grace was finally laid to rest, a special ceremony will be held to remember abandoned children.
Former NSW Premier and Still Birth Foundation Australia patron Kristina Keneally will lead the Baby Lilly Grace Awareness Day memorial walk and service in Matraville on Friday morning.
The event will also be attended by the couple who planned Lilly Grace's funeral last year, Acting Inspector William Green and his wife Filomena D'Alessandro.
The baby's decomposing remains were found in a shallow grave at Maroubra Beach in November 2014.
An inquest was unable to determine who she was or how she died and NSW Deputy State Coroner Hugh Dillon called her death "mysterious, distressing and confronting".
Insp Green said he hoped the ceremony would raise awareness of the support available to the community in such events.
"This was such a tragic incident so Filomena and I wanted to ensure Lily was given a proper farewell so she could be at peace," he said in a statement.
The ceremony will take place at the Eastern Suburbs Memorial Park at 5am on Friday morning.
