Prime Minister Kevin Rudd is keeping up the pressure on the coalition to release its policy costings, saying Opposition Leader Tony Abbott can't keep them hidden forever.
Mr Rudd said shadow treasurer Joe Hockey had indicated the costing work had been done so "why on earth is Mr Abbott not releasing it today".
"What he fears is if the Australian people knew what was in his plans that they would be very very worried about voting for him," Mr Rudd told reporters in Cairns on Wednesday.
He also accused Mr Abbott of embracing Queensland Premier Campbell Newman's strategy.
This was to give no details before an election, then have a commission of audit and subsequently "ripping out" jobs and making cuts to health and education.
"It's time he levels with the Australian people," Mr Rudd said.
"You can't have a hidden plan like this forever."
Mr Abbott should also come clean on his "real plans" for the GST, he said.
Mr Abbott was again quizzed on the issue in Brisbane, responding it was nothing but a "pathetic scare campaign" by Labor.
"Look, we can go round and round the mulberry bush on these issues," he told reporters.
"I want to make it absolutely crystal clear, there will be no change to the GST. Full stop, end of story."
Meanwhile, Mr Hockey said voters would see the coalition's costings in "good time".
"Labor is playing a game. We're not going to respond to that game. We are going to deal with things methodically, carefully, prudently. That's what Australians expect," Mr Hockey told reporters in Brisbane.
He said Tuesday's Pre-election Economic and Fiscal Outlook from Treasury and Finance indicated that there is an enormous amount of potential volatility in their forecasts and was not prepared to make a rash promise of when he would deliver a surplus.
"We're going to focus on delivering real outcomes," he said.
"Only the coalition will deliver a surplus, only the coalition. Labor will never deliver a surplus in Australia."
