Opposition Leader Tony Abbott has promised Australians the coalition will release a "full" fiscal statement before the federal election.
Mr Abbott says voters will know exactly where the coalition plans to make savings to pay for its policies.
"Well before the next election, people will have the full fiscal statement from us," he told Fairfax radio on Tuesday.
Treasurer Chris Bowen is due later this week to release an economic statement updating some of the parameters in the May budget.
It will also detail how initiatives such Labor's Papua New Guinea asylum seeker resettlement deal will be paid for.
Former treasurer Wayne Swan made a similar economic statement in 2010 and the election was called a few days later.
This year's election is currently expected to be held in September.
