Abbott wants to be an 'infrastructure PM'

Tony Abbott says a coalition government would deliver an annual statement to parliament on infrastructure.

Tony Abbott says he wants to be known as an "infrastructure prime minister" if he wins the election, pledging to deliver an annual statement to parliament on the progress of major projects.

The opposition leader says it's good for economic confidence for people to see cranes and bulldozers at work.

He says the coalition has committed to a range of vital infrastructure projects, including Melbourne's East West Link road project.

"Every year in the parliament there will be an infrastructure statement," Mr Abbott told reporters in Melbourne.

"It will be designed to ensure that we don't just talk about infrastructure, we actually get it built.

"I would like to think that should we win the election I will be known as an infrastructure prime minister."
