Opposition Leader Tony Abbott said winning an election while in Opposition is like climbing Mount Everest.
In an interview with SBS, Mr Abbott said that Labor was hopeless at running the government but was brilliant at low politics, which he said will continue through to election day.
But when he was asked why the Opposition did not move a motion of no-confidence in Kevin Rudd following his ballot win against Ms Gillard on Wednesday night, Mr Abbott said there has been too many “parliamentary shenanigans”.
“A third of the cabinet does have no confidence in the new prime minister because a third of them preferred not to serve under him,” Mr Abbott said.
“We just need to get the choice of the prime minister and the government back into the hands of the people not the parliament.”

Mr Abbott also insisted that the election should be held as soon as possible and said that the change in prime ministers has caused uncertainty.
“Today we didn't get any explanations from the new Prime Minister (Kevin Rudd) as to why it was necessary to cut down in the middle of the night the first female Prime Minister Australia has had,” Mr Abbott said.
“I think the Australian people are feeling a bit bewildered and ripped off."
When asked whether the recent chaos in the Labor party has enabled the Coalition to avoid arguing on policy matters, Mr Abbott insisted that the Opposition had real policies and solution plans.
“What does that mean is no carbon tax, no mining tax, putting in place proven policies to protect our borders, it means getting the budget back into the black and it means building modern infrastructure right around Australia, like the East West link in Melbourne and West Connect in Sydney,” he said.
Mr Abbott also said that it was interesting of Mr Rudd to ask for a "kinder, gentler politics" the night after "dragging down the first ever female Prime Minister".
"I think it's a bit rich of him to plot against a Prime Minister for three years then call for a kinder, gentler politics to try to escape scrutiny of his own record," Mr Abbott said.
