Prime Minister Scott Morrison says claims the ABC chairman demanded journalists be sacked are "very concerning" and they will be investigated.

ABC chairman Justin Milne reportedly told former managing director Michelle Guthrie to sack ABC reporters Emma Alberici and Andrew Probyn because the government didn't like their stories.

"They're pretty serious allegations I've got to say. And on the face of it that's very concerning," Mr Morrison told reporters on Queensland's Sunshine Coast on Thursday.
