Barnaby Joyce’s separated wife Natalie Joyce has described the former deputy prime minister’s paid TV interview about his affair with staffer Vikki Campion as “an absolute disgrace”.
"I wasn't surprised she sold their 'exclusive' story, and certainly not surprised the $150,000 went to her child, but it begs the question, if Barney agreed to be a part of it, how could he allow his four girls to be overlooked?” Mrs Joyce told the Australian Women’s Weekly.
“I wouldn't want a cent of that money. It was all we could do to watch it without throwing a brick at the TV.”
Mrs Joyce has maintained her silence throughout the past couple of months about the affair which broke up her more than two decades long marriage to the federal politician.
She previously put out a statement after the affair was made public, saying she was “deeply saddened by the news that my husband has been having an affair and is now having a child with a former staff member”.
Mrs Joyce, who was not paid for the interview with the magazine, said she felt compelled to speak out.
“I'm normally a very private person but I knew I had to find my voice. They thought I would lie down, but this time I couldn't," she told the publication.
"I'm doing this so the girls feel empowered, and know their mum stood up and defended our fine name."
Mr Joyce raised eyebrows after selling the story in a paid TV interview with the Seven Network for a reported $150,000.
