Cilacap Police Chief Ulung Sampurna Jaya says 500 police and military personnel will be on hand when Bashir is moved to Cilacap District Court, southwest Java, with loyalists expected to give a show of support.

In addition, the Cilacap administration, the National Counterterrorism Agency and the Indonesian Police's Densus 88 counterterrorism unit are being deployed to monitor security throughout Tuesday, according to The Jakarta Post.

Seventy-seven-year-old Bashir wants his conviction for supporting a training camp in Aceh overturned, along with the 15-year jail term he was given in 2011.

Bashir is the leader of Islamic organization Jamaah Ansharut Tauhid (JAT). He is being detained at prison island Nusakambangan off the coast of Java where he was relocated in 2012 from the National Police Criminal Investigation detention centre in Jakarta.

He is represented by lawyer Achmad Michdan.
