Veteran Australian rockers AC/DC and country music star Keith Urban have won Grammys in the pre-telecast 52nd Annual Grammy Awards.

Almost 40 years since AC/DC was formed by brothers Angus and Malcolm Young, Aussie rockers AC/DC won their first grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance for War Machine, beating Linkin Park (What I've Done) and Metallica (The Unforgiven III).

Urban won Best Male Country Vocal Performance for Sweet Thing and was nominated in three other categories.

AC/DC's Black Ice is also competing for Best Rock Album with U2's No Line on the Horizon and Green Day's 21st Century Breakdown.

The Grammys honour all styles of music, with more than 100 awards handed out on Monday.
