Earl Eddings' home state flagged concerns about his appointment as Cricket Australia's chairman but the players' union has reacted far more positively.

Eddings became CA's interim chairman following David Peever's resignation, which came shortly after the Ethics Centre released its scathing assessment of the governing body.

The Victorian was then appointed on a full-time basis on Wednesday.

Eddings has adopted a far more consultative approach with the Australian Cricketers' Association (ACA) than his predecessor Peever.

Eddings and ACA counterpart Greg Dyer broke bread at a meeting in Melbourne on Tuesday, with both parties walking away feeling more upbeat about the future.

Eddings also notably called Dyer last week to personally explain why CA's board rejected the ACA's submission regarding the Cape Town trio's bans.

There is renewed hope in cricketing circles that the sport's civil war, at its ugliest during last year's pay dispute, is nearing an end.

Dyer congratulated Eddings on his appointment in a statement.

"On behalf of the ACA, I would like to wish Earl all the best on his appointment," Dyer said.

"Noting some of the positive developments from the recent meeting between our two organisations, I look forward to collaborating with Earl and his board, as we continue to grow and improve cricket."

The ACA will hold its annual general meeting (AGM) on Thursday at the Gabba after play on day three of the Sheffield Shield match between Queensland and Victoria; there are no ACA executive positions up for election.

Cricket Victoria (CV) wanted two directors to be added to CA's board, replacing Peever and Mark Taylor, before a call was made on the new chairman. That request was denied.

"Cricket Victoria has made its view clear and our preference remains that the interim chairman arrangements were maintained while Australian cricket undertakes a thorough process to fill the recent board vacancies," CV chairman Paul Barker said in a statement.

The board, earlier this month, settled on Eddings as their choice to help rebuild Australian cricket after a year of immense upheaval.

They have since been consulting the state associations, who - apart from CV - were largely on board with the appointment.
