Academic faces hearing on child sex claims

A court hearing will be held next year to determine if a Queensland professor will face trial for child sex offences dating back to the 1970s.

Up to seven witnesses will give evidence at a hearing to determine if a Queensland university professor will face trial on child sex charges.

The 72-year-old was arrested last year and faces three charges of indecently dealing with a girl under 12 and two of indecently dealing with a girl under 17.

The alleged abuse is said to have occurred in the 1970s.

The man's lawyer Bill Potts told the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday that at least four, and up to seven, witnesses would give evidence during a two-day committal hearing next March.

A magistrate will determine whether there is enough evidence to commit the man to stand trial.
