Academic warns of FIFO dark side

The effects of the fly-in, fly-out boom of temporary mining workers are only just beginning to be understood.

One group of researchers looking into the prevalence of violence and crime in rural communities has reported how it 'stumbled' across high levels of violence, self-harm, prostitution and drug use in towns and communities with high levels of temporary mining staff.
