A report by the Australian Academy of Science says vulnerable people in the community will be hit hardest by health problems arising from climate change.

The report, entitled Climate Change Challenges to Health: Risks and Opportunities, outlines five areas which will impact on people's wellbeing.

It suggests the effects of climate change are inescapable but the risk is higher for the elderly, the sick and the poor.

The authors of the report say Australia can use the 22 recommendations to move forward its response to climate change.
