ACCC clears Transurban to buy AirportLink

The ACCC has given Transurban the all clear to spend $1.9b on buying Brisbane's AirportLink M7 toll road.

Transurban's $1.9 billion purchase of Brisbane's AirportLink M7 toll road has been given the green light by the competition watchdog.

The deal, announced on Tuesday, handed control of Brisbane's six toll roads to Transurban.

But the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission says it will not stand in the way of Transurban buying the road from the receivers behind BrisConnections, which collapsed after spending nearly $5 billion building the 6.7km motorway.

ACCC chairman Rod Sims said the deal was unlikely to lead to higher tolls for motorists as they are generally regulated by government authorities and toll road operators.

"Transurban will continue to face effective competition in bidding to construct, own or operate any new toll roads in Queensland or elsewhere in Australia," Mr Sims said.
