Accountants want to see tax white paper

Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand is concerned the Abbott government has not got its tax reform white paper underway.

Tax experts believe the delay in getting the Abbott government's promised tax review white paper under way is undermining confidence.

But Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand has urged the government to avoid piecemeal tax announcements in the coming May budget.

The group's head of leadership and advocacy Rob Ward says tax payers will continue to lose if the government does not bring to life promised tax reform.

"We acknowledge constraints that the government is under but they should uphold their promise of tax reform that is of genuine national and strategic importance," Mr Ward said releasing its 2015/16 budget submission.

He said while the government has shown signs of wanting to pave a clear road map to tax reform with the tax white paper, "the delay in its release continues to reduce public and business confidence".
