A man accused of killing north Sydney businessman Morgan Huxley also stole from him on the night of the alleged murder, court papers show.
Daniel Jack Kelsall, 20, was charged with murder on Tuesday, exactly a month after police found Mr Huxley dead in his Neutral Bay unit.
Kelsall later appeared in Central Local Court where Magistrate Les Mabbutt formally refused bail and adjourned the case.
His lawyer George Breton said he would potentially apply for bail at his next court appearance on October 15.
Court papers say Kelsall stole from Mr Huxley in the early hours of September 8.

Mr Huxley, 31, was found wounded in his bedroom but later died.
Police have also charged Kelsall with one count of larceny.
Court papers show the two men, who police believe didn't know each other, lived minutes apart in the lower northshore suburb.
Police say there was no indication of a break-in.
Mr Breton told reporters outside court that his client was cooperating with police.
"It's a very stressful time for everybody involved, he's doing everything to assist police with their inquiries," he said.
Asked if his client would fight the charges, Mr Breton said "that's a matter for later conversations".
Security footage captured the last hours of Mr Huxley's life.
He was recorded walking into a pub near his house barefoot at 1.01am after spending the afternoon at a friend's engagement party.
He had a beer by himself and left through the pub's Ben Boyd Road exit just after 1.30am.
About 3am, Mr Huxley's flatmate found him with multiple stab wounds. He was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital where he died a short time later.
