The man accused of the stabbing murder of Sydney businessman Morgan Huxley will remain behind bars until his next court appearance in the new year.

Daniel Jack Kelsall, 20, is facing a murder charge over the fatal stabbing of Mr Huxley, 31.

In a brief mention at Sydney's Central Local Court on Tuesday Mr Kelsall's lawyer did not apply for bail, which was formally refused by Magistrate Les Mabbutt.

Mr Kelsall is due to appear by audio visual link before the same court on January 14.

He was charged a month after Mr Huxley was found with stab wounds in his Neutral Bay unit by his flatmate in the early hours of September 8.

Mr Huxley died in hospital.

Mr Kelsall has also been charged with larceny, but police say there were no signs of a break-in at Mr Huxley's unit.
