An accused people smuggler, who was extradited from Indonesia last week, has made his first appearance in a Perth court with a Farsi interpreter.
Afghan man Ahmad Zia Alizadah, 35, first appeared in Perth Magistrates Court on Friday accused of facilitating four illegal boat arrivals involving more than 260 people and payments of up to $US10,000 per person between January 2009 and February 2010.
But an interpreter was not available that day, so the case was adjourned until Monday when the 10 charges were read out to him.
Alizadah indicated he understood the charges but he was not required to enter a plea and did not make a bail application.
Magistrate Martin Flynn remanded Alizadah in custody until his next court date on August 18 when he will appear in person.
