A man accused of biting the head off a rat in a bizarre and sickening Facebook stunt has appeared in a Queensland court.

Matthew Maloney, 24, appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday, charged with one count of animal cruelty, where the matter was adjourned until April 6.

RSPCA inspectors raided Maloney's Albion home in January, seizing a pet snake and his surviving rats, after receiving a complaint about a gruesome social media post in which the head was bitten off a live rodent.
