A man who allegedly stabbed his flatmate to death has been added to NSW's most wanted list.

Changjie Wang, 23, is wanted for questioning over the murder of his flatmate Gongcheng Chen, also aged 23, who was found with stabs wounds last Tuesday in the western Sydney suburb of Auburn.

NSW police on Monday added Wang to the NSW most wanted list and issued a warrant for his arrest.

Mr Chen's mother and sister appeared before the media on Monday and appealed for anyone with information about the murder to come forward.

Neighbours were woken the night of the murder to the sounds of fighting and shouting at the Marion Street block.

Shortly after, emergency services found Mr Chen's body, along with a knife, believed to be the murder weapon.

Wang is described as 160cm tall with average build and dark hair. He has a tattoo on his chest.

Wang also goes by the names of Jie Wang and Wang Changjie.

Police say Wang should not be approached and anyone seeing him should call triple zero.

Wang joins six other men on the most wanted list, along with people accused of murder, sexual assault and drug supply.
