Accused Sydney wife-killer refused bail

A NSW man charged with stabbing his wife to death will spend the next seven weeks behind bars until his next appearance after his bail application was refused.

A man accused of stabbing his wife to death in western Sydney will spend almost two months behind bars after he was refused bail.

Bangladeshi Shahab Ahmed appeared at Parramatta Local Court via video-link on Monday charged with murdering his 29-year-old wife, Khondkar Faihi Elahi, on Saturday at their Parramatta unit.

Police will allege Ahmed killed Ms Elahi after learning she was having an affair.

Ms Elahi was found stabbed in the chest at the couple's unit and later died in Westmead Hospital, police said.

Ahmed is alleged to have called triple-zero after the incident and stayed in the unit until police and paramedics arrived.

In court on Monday, Magistrate Gary Still refused Ahmed's bail application, saying nothing he had heard "persuades me that he can show why his detention isn't justified".

Ahmed is expected to appear again via video-link on April 12.
