Collingwood's run of bad luck with injury has continued with young defender Jackson Ramsay sustaining a season-ending knee injury.

Ramsay, 21, was sent for scans after a mishap during a training session on Thursday morning with the AFL club later confirming he had ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

He will undergo a reconstruction that will sideline him for the rest of the season.

"It's very disappointing, for Jackson and the club," Magpies football chief Neil Balme said.

"He has been through more than he deserves, as one of our most professional and dedicated young players, but he is made of the right stuff.

"We look forward to the time when he makes his way back.

"We're sure he will."

Ramsay played the first five games of last season before his campaign was ended by a serious shin injury.

He has played nine games for the Pies since being selected 38th overall at the 2012 draft.

Collingwood have endured a torrid time on the injury front recently with Dane Swan (foot) most likely out for the year and Jamie Elliott (back) and Travis Varcoe (hamstring) yet to play a game this season.

Matt Scharenberg is also unlikely to play this year after undergoing a knee reconstruction last November.
