ACT police have deemed a suspicious package, which caused the closure of a section of Canberra's CBD, safe.

Officers cordoned off an area in Civic's Garema Place after being alerted to the box just after 11.30am on Saturday.

The AFP Bomb Response Team was called in and the package was found to be safe, police said in a statement which also thanked people for their patience.
