Actor Richard Coogan dies

Actor Richard Coogan, who appeared in TV shows including the soap opera Love Of Life, has died in Los Angeles at the age of 99.

Actor Richard Coogan has died, aged 99.

The star, best known for his TV work in shows such as Captain Video And His Video Rangers and the soap opera Love Of Life, died in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

Coogan began his career on Broadway, appearing in shows such as Diamond Lil alongside Mae West.

He moved into TV when he was cast in the lead role in the groundbreaking Captain Video series, which debuted in 1949.

After appearing in two series of the show, Coogan moved on to a role in the soap opera Love Of Life.

He later appeared in films such as Three Hours To Kill and Girl On The Run, and TV shows including Gunsmoke, Bonanza, Maverick and Perry Mason.

He retired from acting in the 1960s and went on to become a professional golfer.
