Adam Scott four shots adrift in Japan Open

It has been a solid if unspectacular opening round for Adam Scott at the Japan Open, the Australian finishing the day four shots off the lead.

Former Australian world No.1 Adam Scott is four shots off the lead after the first round of the Japan Open.

Looking to give his short putter a workout in a stroke play tournament for the first time since March, Scott enjoyed a bogey-free round at the Rokko Kokusai course.

But his two-under-par 70 wasn't enough to get him to the pointy end of the leaderboard with a bevy of players in front of him.

The Philippines' Juvic Pagunsan led the way with seven birdies in his 6-under 66 at the par-72 course.

Pagunsan held a one-shot buffer over Japan's Ryutaro Nagano with five other players a further shot back.

Adam Bland was the best-placed of the Australians at three-under.
