Engineering group Downer EDI says it has mutually agreed with India's Adani group to cancel all contracts awarded to it in relation to the controversial Carmichael coal mine project in Queensland since 2014.
Downer said it will provide transitional assistance until March 31, 2018 to Adani, which has decided to develop the Carmichael mine on its own as owner operator.
The ASX-listed group had received a $2 billion contract in 2014 to provide technical services to Adani including drilling, blasting and coal and waste haulage for the mine, which has been a target of environmental groups and activists.
