Former Brisbane captain Jed Adcock feels he still has several good AFL seasons left in him as a player and hopes that includes a premiership.
While admitting to disappointment about his departure from the Lions, Adcock said his motivation must be to make the most of his time at the Western Bulldogs.
Brisbane raised eyebrows at the end of the season when they cut Adcock, 29, after 206 games.
He joined the Bulldogs through last month's rookie draft.
"I felt like I still had three to four years really good years of footy left," Adcock told RSN.
"I was disappointed, yeah, a little bit.
"I guess I probably felt I would play my career out at Brisbane.
"You have to move on pretty quickly and I was lucky to get an opportunity down here."
Adcock said he had a conversation with coach Justin Leppitsch and was told perhaps his best football was behind him.
Asked if that gave him added motivation, Adcock said: "I hope that doesn't play a big part in it - the motivation should be that you feel you can still contribute to an AFL club somewhere and play really good senior footy.
"I'm still pushing to try and play in a few more finals ... and hopefully one day play in a premiership."
It has been another big off-season for Brisbane, who lost James Aish to Collingwood and fellow midfielder Jack Redden to West Coast.
But there was good news on the weekend, with ruckman Stefan Martin extending his contract for three years in a deal that effectively makes him a one-club player.
Fellow club champion Mitch Robinson and defender Pearce Hanley have also re-committed to the Lions.
Robinson will be with Brisbane until the end of 2018 and Hanley is signed to the end of the `19 season, as is Martin.
The ruckman was due to come out of contract at the end of next season and there were concerns he might want to return to Melbourne for personal reasons.
