Adelaide council releases draft budget

The Adelaide City Council has released a draft budget for 2017/18, and will finalise its planned spending by the end of June.

The Adelaide City council plans to spend up on infrastructure over the next financial year, but won't increase rates.

The council has released its draft budget for 2017/18, which includes $33.8 million for infrastructure projects, as well as $16.8 million for new bikeways and laneways and $14.8 million for parkland projects and maintenance.

It will also freeze the rate in the dollar it charges, to minimise the impact of its spending on city businesses and residents.

The council will finalise its budget by the end of June after considering community feedback.

"The draft budget outcome reflects a rigorous process of review and challenge to every aspect of council's projected revenue and expenditure," Lord Mayor Martin Haese said.

He said the council had identified $3 million in savings which had allowed it to absorb increases in energy and technology costs.
