Adelaide have dropped an AFL selection bombshell, axing star recruit Bryce Gibbs for their important clash with North Melbourne.

Gibbs had played every game since joining Adelaide from Carlton two years ago.

He was a highlight of last year's disappointing season, finishing fourth in their best and fairest.

"Bryce's form has been patchy and not at the usual consistent high standard that both he and we expect," coach Don Pyke said on the club website.

"We operate in an environment where we must reward people for strong performances."

Saturday night's Marvel Stadium match is vital for both teams, with the 1-2 Crows coming off two home losses and North mired in a 0-3 start.

Adelaide have recalled Myles Poholke and Cam Ellis-Yolmen, with Paul Seedsman out because of his knee injury.

The Kangaroos swung four changes, dropping recruits Tom Campbell and Dom Tyson as well as Ben McKay, while Baily Scott is being managed.

Paul Ahern will play his first AFL game since round 11 last season and North also recalled Mason Wood, Jed Anderson and Cameron Zurhaar.

As expected, Richmond have made wholesale changes for their big away match against Port Adelaide.

The Tigers lost captain Trent Cotchin and Dustin Martin, meaning they are without their big four, including Alex Rance and Jack Riewoldt, for the first time since the start of the 2010 season.

Richmond regained Josh Caddy, Bachar Houli and Dylan Grimes, along with Liam Baker and Shai Bolton, while Jack Ross will make his AFL debut.

Jayden Short (elbow) is the other casualty as Ryan Garthwaite, Dan Butler and Oleg Markov were dropped, while Port are unchanged for the Saturday clash.

Cale Hooker headlines four inclusions for Essendon, who host unbeaten Brisbane this Saturday at the MCG.

Shaun McKernan and Kobe Mutch are out with hamstring injuries, while Aaron Francis and Matt Guelfi were dropped.

The Bombers also recalled Mason Redman, Mitch Brown and David Myers as Brisbane included Allen Christensen and Nick Robertson for Zac Bailey (hamstring) and Ryan Bastinac.

The Giants have regained co-captain Callan Ward for Saturday's big away match against unbeaten Geelong.

Ward will replace Tommy Sheridan (calf), while Geelong have lost defender Lachie Henderson (ankle) and recalled Jack Henry.

Collingwood and the Western Bulldogs made one change apiece for Friday night's MCG clash.

The Bulldogs regain Norm Smith Medallist Jason Johannisen for Lewis Young and the Magpies left out Levi Greenwood for Travis Varcoe.

Fremantle have recalled small forwards Sam Switkowski and Lachie Schultz for Saturday's Western Derby, losing captain Nat Fyfe to concussion and dropping Bailey Banfield.

The Eagles recalled Liam Duggan and Josh Rotham.
