The city of Adelaide has been in party mode since the full time whistle ended last night's A-League Grand Final.

Adelaide United was crowned champions for the first time since its inception 12 years ago.

A large section of the 50,000 crowd that watched their team defeat Western Sydney 3-1 spilled into the CBD today to salute their heroes.

Adelaide striker Bruce Djite led was grateful for the support of the people of his home town.

"Just look at this, it's fantastic to have so much support. I know that a few pepole were a bit nervous at the start but with a bit of perseverance and the togetherness of this squad we were able to achieve somehting significant yesterday."

Adelaide's rise to champion status has been a fairy tale.

After propping up the 10-team A-League after eight rounds, few believed the team's band of players would reach the top six play-offs let alone claim the title.

Djite says he always believed.

"One of the benefits of this team is that there's no stand-out (player) that you stop and you stop the whole team. If it's not Marcelo Carrusca, it's Bruce Kamau, if not Bruce Kamau, it's Sergoi Cirio, if not Cirio it's Isaias Sanchez coming up with a free kick that he never practices." (laughter).

As the celebrations continue in Adelaide, the dejected Wanderers returned to Sydney this afternoon.

Players such as Brendan Santalab said they found it difficult to come to terms with another defeat but were satisfied with the season performance.

"It's devastating. Third grand final, another loss. It's very hard to take today (Monday). I think when you look at things over all we're very happy with the season we've had and way we've bounced back from the disappointing season last year. So we can only get better from here."

Making matters worse, a minority section of Wanderers supporters who have been accused of setting off flares before and during the Grand Final, and damaging up to 30 seats.

An estimated 10,000 supporters travelled to the South Australian capital but the behaviour could result in the docking of competition points next season.

However to reach the championship-decider for the third time in the club's short four year history, has been equally impressive.
