Adelaide wins the national space agency

Adelaide has won the right to be the base for the new Australian Space Agency.

THE AUSTRALIAN SPACE AGENCY:

* The federal government will spend $41 million to establish the agency in Adelaide with its office to have a staff of 20 by mid-2019.

* It plans to grow annual turnover in the Australian space sector to $12 billion and employment to 20,000 by 2030.

* The agency will help local companies snare a bigger slice of the global space industry currently estimated at $US345 million.

* It will be headed up by former CSIRO boss Dr Megan Clark, with its base within the Lot 14 precinct on the old Royal Adelaide Hospital site.
