Adelaide's Seedsman to make AFL return

Adelaide coach Don Pyke expects wingman Paul Seedsman to return from injury against Sydney in their AFL clash at the SCG.

Adelaide winger Paul Seedsman has been cleared for an AFL return but teammate Richard Douglas may need surgery on an injured ankle.

Crows coach Don Pyke says Douglas is seeking further diagnosis on the injury he suffered in the opening-round loss against Hawthorn.

"It's the same ankle he did last year so he has got some history there," Pyke told reporters on Wednesday.

"So it's a question: is it scar tissue, what new damage has he done?

"Do we leave it and try and recover it naturally versus do a surgical intervention."

Pyke expected the answer later this week but declared Seedsman would play against Sydney at the SCG on Friday night after he missed round one because of a finger injury.

"He has recovered really well ... we expect he will be back in," he said.

The Crows boss earmarked either Kyle Hartigan or Andy Otten to replace defender Tom Doedee, who will miss the rest of the season after needing a knee reconstruction.

Doedee was hurt in a loss to the Hawks which still puzzled Pyke, who was uncertain why Adelaide's skills were so sloppy.

"I don't know," he said.

"I would love to be able to put a finger on it and say 'it was this or we didn't do this'.

"It seemed like from very early on in the game we weren't as clean with the ball; some of it was execution, some of it was decision making, some of it was the pressure of the game."

Pyke said the opening loss had heaped pressure on his players entering their trip to face the Swans, who were also first-round losers.

"She's a tight comp and you don't want to be 0-2," he said.

"We have got a big challenge coming up against Sydney who are also in the same spot as us having lost last week.

"Generally this time of year, you will get teams looking to establish themselves in the comp.

"And certainly we go to Sydney with a challenge but also with a great opportunity to put our brand back in terms of how we want to play."
