Adele Carles has quit the West Australian Greens and will sit as an independent in state parliament after falling out with party officials over her affair with Liberal MP Troy Buswell.

The move follows revelations of her affair with Mr Buswell, who resigned as treasurer on April 26 over his use of ministerial entitlements during the affair.

Ms Carles, the first Green to hold a lower house seat in WA, said she could no longer work with senior party MP Giz Watson who had pushed her into revealing the affair, according to reports in the Australian and West Australian newspapers.

The Fremantle MP said she would sit as an independent and would not rule out running for her seat again in 2013.
