The defence cadet accused of secretly filming himself having sex with a female cadet bragged about his plan on Facebook, a court has heard.

Daniel McDonald, 19, talked about his plan to "root a girl n (sic) have a webcam setup," where fellow students of the Australian Defence Force Academy could watch via Skype.

McDonald and fellow cadet Dylan De Blaquiere, 18, were arrested by Australian Federal Police on Friday morning and later faced the ACT Magistrates Court.

A statement of facts handed to the court by police say McDonald was in a "friend with benefits" relationship with the unnamed female cadet but she was unaware of his plan to film the consensual sex. On returning to her room, the 18-year-old found the Facebook message.

McDonald faces two separate charges, one of using a carriage service to cause offence and one of an act of indecency. De Blaquiere faced one count of using a carriage service to cause offence.

The lawyer for one of the men immediately moved to have the case heard in a closed court because of "national security concerns". Chief Magistrate John Burns rejected the application. "It is highly desirable that this matter be properly investigated," Mr Burns said.

Two days after the woman gave her initial statement to police, two search warrants were executed on the room were police allege the pair had sex and the room were six other cadets allegedly watched on.

Two laptops and another computer similar to an iPad were taken by police.

The court heard in his own conversation with police, McDonald claimed the woman knew she was to be filmed.

"He further stated that he believed that (the woman) waved to the webcam as she left the room, and that `she was just playing to her audience'. In a third search warrant, police took the mobile phones of both McDonald and one of the cadets who allegedly watched the sex via Skype.

A forensic examination of McDonald's phone revealed De Blaquiere sent him a text message saying "I just had a f****n sick idea pop into my head, f**k her n(sic) film it", a court has heard.

Both men were bailed on condition they did not go within 100 metres of the alleged victim. However, Chief Magistrate John Burns said both cadets would still be allowed to sit in the same academy classroom as the female.
