Malik lost both his legs when he walked over a land mine in Kabul at age 11 and is preparing for London on his own, without the help of a coach or trainer.

In Kabul, where sports facilities are considered lacking and financial support is minimal, Malik's friends and family provide crucial support and encouragement.
