AFL admits to another score review blunder

Human error has been blamed for the AFL's latest score review blunder, with the league promising further education of officials.

The AFL has admitted to a second score review blunder in as many days - but says it was human error this time.

A technical issue was to blame for a goal being awarded to Michael Walters during Fremantle's four-point win on Saturday over Collingwood.

On that occasion, the score review official only had vision of the goalline available - and not the footage showing the kick had been touched by Collingwood's Chris Mayne off the boot.

But human error was blamed for Oscar Allen's goal not being overruled during West Coast's 61-point defeat on Sunday of the Western Bulldogs.

The score review official looked to see whether the ball had been touched by Zaine Cordy on the goalline.

But they didn't check the vision off the boot, which showed it had been touched by Marcus Bontempelli.

The AFL said the official didn't follow proper procedure.

"The score review official reviewed goalline vision for a potential touch in the goal square, but did not follow the procedure to review vision for a potential touch off the boot," the AFL said in a statement.

"The AFL acknowledges that had the score review official followed the correct process, there was vision available to show a touch off the boot by Western Bulldogs player Marcus Bontempelli.

"The AFL will continue to educate all score review officials to maximise the effectiveness of the score review system."

Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge wasn't upset over the incident considering the final margin.

"When you get beaten by 10 goals, it's not a significant cause of frustration," Beveridge said after the game.

"Obviously, they've got to look at it because it's happened in a couple of games, but I'd rather not dwell on it considering we got rolled by so much.

"And I probably wouldn't go there if we got done by a goal either - it would just be making an excuse."

Eagles coach Adam Simpson said the score review officers should take a bit more time to analyse vision if there was any doubt on a goal that had been awarded.
