AFL Captains' poll puts GWS in grand final

The annual AFL club captains' poll predicts GWS Giants playing in this year's grand final and Geelong's Patrick Dangerfield winning consecutive Brownlow Medals.

AFL CAPTAINS' 2017 SEASON POLL RESULTS

A week out from the AFL season, the 18 club captains have each voted for the teams they see as their biggest competition and players they think will take out the end-of-season awards.

TOP EIGHT CLUBS

Sydney Swans (17), GWS Giants (16), West Coast (16), Adelaide Crows (15), Western Bulldogs (15), Geelong Cats (14), Hawthorn (14) and St Kilda (11) have been voted as the clubs most likely to make this year's top eight, with each club's captain picking seven other teams.

GRAND FINAL OPPONENT

Fourteen of the 18 captains think they will face GWS Giants in the Grand Final. In last year's poll no captains picked premiership winners Western Bulldogs.

BROWNLOW MEDAL WINNER

Last year's winner Patrick Dangerfield from Geelong is also this year's prediction, with five votes, while Western Bulldogs' Marcus Bontempelli, Sydney Swans' Dan Hannebery and Richmond's Dustin Martin each got two votes.

COLEMAN MEDAL WINNER

Sydney Swans' Lance Franklin and Gold Coast Suns' Tom Lynch each got six nods for the player who will kick the most goals this season. Despite winning the award last year, Josh Kennedy from West Coast only got four votes and GWS Giants' Jeremy Cameron two.

RISING STAR

Seven captains in last year's poll correctly picked Swans defender Callum Mills, but this year's votes are more spread out. Essendon's Andrew McGrath got the most votes with four, while Port Adelaide's Sam Powell-Pepper and GWS Giants' Tim Taranto each got three votes.
