The teenage son of Hawthorn assistant coach Brett Ratten has died in a car crash.
The Hawks have confirmed that Cooper Ratten, 16, was in the back seat of a car that veered off the road and rolled at Yarra Glen, northeast of Melbourne, just after 3am on Sunday.
"Cooper ... received life-threatening injuries and died en route to the hospital," the football club said in a statement.
A 17-year-old boy who was in the front seat was taken to Box Hill hospital with minor injuries while the 17-year-old driver was taken to Maroondah hospital and was in police custody.
Police said speed was an obvious factor, the car may have been stolen, and drugs and alcohol may have been involved.

Meanwhile a man has died after he was struck by a car in Gippsland.
The 36-year-old man was struck by a car in Swan Reach about 6pm on Saturday and airlifted to The Alfred Hospital, where he died overnight.
His companion, a 45-year-old man, is in hospital with serious injuries while the driver, 34, is assisting police with their inquiries.
