AFL Eagles tip Kennedy to fire for finals

Star West Coast forward Josh Kennedy has battled leg injuries all season, but coach Adam Simpson expects the veteran to be firing come finals time.

West Coast coach Adam Simpson is confident Josh Kennedy will be able to return with his usual bang when the star veteran recovers from his latest leg injury.

Kennedy is battling a second hairline fracture in his right leg, while he also underwent knee and ankle surgery earlier this year.

The two-time Coleman medallist is set to miss matches against Port Adelaide and Melbourne over the next fortnight, but he hopes to return in the final round against Brisbane.

Despite being banged up for much of the year, Kennedy has managed 34 goals from 11 games.

Simpson expects Kennedy to be his usual self when he returns.

"He's class. He'll just do what he does. He'll be right," Simpson said.

"If he's playing, you'll see the same JK.

"I think he'll be on the track on Monday. We'll see how he goes for next week.

"We're just being a bit more cautious than we were last time."

West Coast sit six points clear in second spot, but they could fall out of the top four if they lose to both Port and Melbourne.

"We want top four, we want to have a crack at that, and preferably top two," Simpson said ahead of Saturday's clash with the Power in Adelaide.

"So for us to do that, we need to knock over Port. And for Port to finish top four or top two, they need to knock us over."

West Coast recalled midfielders Dom Sheed and Brendon Ah Chee in place of Andrew Gaff (suspended) and defender Will Schofield (hamstring).

Simpson admits it will be a tough challenge to replace Gaff's class after the star midfielder was suspended for eight weeks over his punch on Andrew Brayshaw.

West Coast will also be without Nic Naitanui (knee) for the rest of the season.

"It will be a different looking midfield without Andrew," Simpson said.

"We've got to find a different way."

Port Adelaide (12-7) axed Riley Bonner, Jack Hombsch, and Sam Powell-Pepper.

Dougal Howard, Sam Gray, and Aidyn Johnson all return to the side.
