Victoria's Child Safety Commissioner Bernie Geary says he's concerned about the welfare of the teenager at the centre of the AFL nude photo scandal.
Saint Kilda Football Club has branded the girl "a malicious trouble maker" and has said its players could seek damages through the Federal Court over the 17 year-old girl's publishing of nude photos.
She has posted front-on photos of high-profile players, including Nick Riewoldt and Nick Dal Santo, on Facebook.
St Kilda claims the photos were taken during an end-of-year football trip in Miami, and subsequently stolen from teammate Sam Gilbert's computer.
The court is considering an application brought forward by Gilbert's lawyer and on Thursday extended a ban on the girl form publishing any photographs or video obtained from his computer.
Commissioner Geary is concerned about how the situation is playing out, saying the girl has been "vilified as some sort of a monster".
Girl 'in danger'
"This child is in danger, this child will be left at the end of this situation as a vilified person," he told ABC Radio on Friday.
He urged St Kilda to consider its handling of the case.
"Rather than (to) fly to the aid of players, (it should) understand that there's a child in the centre of this," Mr Geary said.
"I would (also) ask the public who are obviously giving this oxygen would they want their child to be in the same circumstance?"
The girl told reporters on Thursday she was unlikely to attend the Federal Court hearing on Friday, and that her family had cut all ties because of the saga.
She claims to have received numerous death threats but is still seeking an exclusive deal to tell her story in exchange for all 19 of the lewd images she holds.
Players from Sydney, Collingwood, West Coast and Adelaide are reportedly among those who would be exposed if her other images come to light.
