He's yet to play a single AFL match but highly rated youngster Izak Rankine has secured a significant contract extension with Gold Coast.

The 19-year-old, taken with pick three in last year's draft, has been hampered by injury in his first AFL season after showing glimpses of his talent in the pre-season series.

Despite hamstring injuries preventing him from making his AFL debut, Rankine has signed an extended contract with the Suns until the end of the 2022 season.

"Since I've arrived, I've loved my time on the Coast," the South Australian said.

"I've learnt so much about footy and my body and am looking forward to continuing that over the coming years.

"There have been so many different people who have invested their time in me, I can't wait to repay them."

Rankine recently returned from his latest hamstring injury for the Suns' reserves and is hopeful of making his AFL debut before the end of the 2019 campaign.

He is one of several Suns to commit their long term futures to the club this season including co-captains David Swallow and Jarrod Witts, vice-captain Touk Miller, forward Alex Sexton as well as Rory Thompson, Peter Wright, Ben Ainsworth and Jack Bowes.
