AFL's Shanghai match reaches capacity

The AFL expects about 10,000 fans to watch the May 14 match in Shanghai between Gold Coast and Port Adelaide.

The AFL match in Shanghai between Gold Coast and Port Adelaide is set to attract a crowd of about 10,000.

The league announced late on Thursday that all tickets for the May 14 match were now sold.

Shanghai's Jiangwan Stadium will host the first AFL match for premiership points outside Australia and New Zealand.

"The crowd will be made up of fans travelling from Australia, fans from the Asian region and new fans from within China itself," AFL finance officer Travis Auld said.

There has been speculation this week about whether the game will go ahead in Shanghai, given the regional tensions surrounding North Korea.

The AFL remains confident the game will proceed as planned but Gold Coast's Metricon Stadium is on standby.
