North Melbourne forward Kayne Turner will lose his driver's licence, incur a fine and is also set to be sanctioned by his AFL club after being arrested for drink-driving.
The 20-year-old - who is still on his probationary licence - recorded a blood-alcohol reading of .133 after being pulled over by Victoria Police early on Sunday morning.
He was understood to be driving home from his brother's house in suburban Melbourne and was alone in the car.
Turner's car was impounded by police and he is expected to lose his licence for up to 13 months.
"Kayne is extremely remorseful and embarrassed by his actions," North Melbourne director of football Geoff Walsh said in a statement.
"He is fully aware that his decision to get behind the wheel could have put lives at risk.
"His poor judgment and decision-making has let many people down.
"While he fully co-operated with police and notified the club immediately, he'll now have to work extremely hard to regain the trust and respect of his teammates and peers.
"On top of the sanctions imposed by police, the club will consider a penalty in consultation with the leadership group and senior management."
Turner is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury.
He has played 21 AFL matches and kicked 16 goals for the Kangaroos since making his debut in 2014.
