Federal police have been asked to investigate a Labor "Mediscare" campaign during the ACT election.

The AFP has confirmed it received a referral last week from the Department of Human Services relating to the alleged misuse of the Medicare name and logo.

It comes after the AFP in August said it couldn't identify any commonwealth offence after it was asked to investigate text messages sent to voters on the day of the federal election pretending to come from Medicare.
