A man will face court today after allegedly being found with more than 35,000 child pornography photographs and 800 videos in Sydney's southwest.
Police raided a Rosemeadow home on Thursday and seized a computer, hard drives, Australian Federal Police uniforms, batons and handcuffs, as well as the photographs and videos.
"Many of the images depicted have left the investigation team, some with more than 20 years investigations experience, extremely concerned about the obscene nature of what they discovered," Campbelltown Local Area Commander Superintendent Greg Rolph said in a statement.
Police will allege he was in positions of authority that gave him access to "emotionally and physically vulnerable children".
The Sydney Morning Herald reports that the 49-year-old man was an employee of the AFP from 1986 to 1990.
A 49-year old man was arrested at the Rosemeadow home and taken to Campbelltown police station, where he was charged with disseminating child pornography, three counts of possessing child pornography, possessing a prohibited weapon and possessing
ammunition without a licence.
He is due to appear in Campbelltown Local Court on Friday, and police expect further charges will be laid.
